On October 4, 2019, the final stage of the National Forest Forum was held in Moscow. The meeting was attended by the heads of regional forestry authorities, including from Tatarstan - RT Minister of Forestry Ravil Kuzyurov, representatives of business, science, public organizations, and the expert community.

Participants of the event discussed the implementation of the federal project “Forests Conservation” within the framework of the national project “Ecology”, preliminary results of the fire hazard season, interaction of aviation forest protection and forest fire services, training issues, ways to increase the prestige of forest professions, social protection of forestry workers, and the possibility of state - private partnerships and others.

In his address to the audience, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation Dmitry Kobylkin, emphasized the importance of saving “green gold” of our country among the priorities facing the industry.

“The federal project “Forests Conservation” as part of the national project “Ecology” is called upon to help. We have to ensure the balance of forest disposal and restoration, introduce modern information technologies into the industry, increase the depth of wood processing, and modernize the system of forest protection against fires. I am sure that all tasks set by the national project will find their solution”, the Minister said.

Concerning the practical implementation of the “Forests Conservation” project, Mikhail Klinov, Acting Head of the Federal Forestry Agency, noted the need to concentrate on such areas of work as fighting forest fires, improving the quality of forest reproduction, and improving the control and supervision functions performed by the Federal Forestry Agency and its territorial bodies in places.

“Despite the difficult forest fire situation this summer, we expect that the project’s planned indicators in 2019 will be fully implemented: both in terms of procurement of forest fire and forestry equipment, and in terms of reforestation, inventory of the forest fund, and creation of a seed reserve”, summed up Mikhail Klinov.

The previous stages of the 2019 National Forest Forum took place in Tambov, Tyumen, Perm, Yakutsk, Syktyvkar and Krasnoyarsk. More than 3,000 experts from 50 regions expressed their opinion on solving urgent problems of forestry. The recommendations adopted following the results of the National Forest Forum will be discussed at the Parliamentary hearings in the State Duma in November 2019 with a view to including them in the plan for further legislative work to improve the forest legislation of the Russian Federation.
