The interregional research and practical school conference “Nature and Our Place Therein” dedicated to the Year of Ecology and Public Spaces was held in the Agryz district of the Republic of Tatarstan at the premises of Kichketanskaya Secondary School. The inspectors of Kichke-Tan Nature Sanctuary, teachers of biology and ecology of comprehensive educational institutions of the Agryzsky district of Tatarstan, and the Alnashsky and Malopurginsky Districts of the Udmurt Republic took part in the conference.

The conference was aimed at the development of the environmental, intellectual and creative activity of schoolchildren, the cultivation in children of the interest in environmental problems, the formation of skills in the project activities of schoolchildren. The conference summarized the experience of work on environmental education and upbringing, the development of the creative potential of teachers, raising their competence in the field of environmental education.

The experts of Kichke-Tan Nature Sanctuary visited open lessons, participated in presentations, conducted master classes and answered questions from pupils and mass media representatives. The head of Kichke-Tan Nature Sanctuary A.G.Fayzullin spoke to the participants of the conference: “Nature conservation is a sacred duty of everyone. Treat all living creatures sacredly”.

At the end of the event the active participants were awarded diplomas and the third edition of the Red Book of the Republic of Tatarstan.

On March 25, an official awarding ceremony of the winners of the 10th city contest “Let's Save the Forests of Tatarstan!” was held in Prigorodnoye Forestry. The First Deputy Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan Emir Bedertdinov took part in the event. In his speech he noted that this year a record number of works was submitted for the contest – over a thousand materials (crafts, drawings, and leaflets regarding environment and fire prevention) were presented. “It is very gratifying that the love to the native land, conservation and careful attitude towards forests of our Republic are cultivated in the younger generation,” said E.N. Bedertdinov and wished all the participants further creative success, creative imagination and artistic skill.

This year's contest “Let's Save the Forests of Tatarstan!” was coincided with the Year of Ecology. The purpose of the event is to increase the awareness of children and their parents about the importance of forest ecosystems, their condition, and cultivation of environmental outlook and culture in the younger generation; fostering careful attitude towards environment. The preschoolers, schoolchildren of Kazan schools, teachers, children's and youth organizations took part in the event. The materials were evaluated in the following categories:

  1. Drawings on “Let's save the beautiful forests of my Tatarstan”. Individual participation
  2. Crafts made of natural material on “The forest is my green friend!”. Individual or team participation
  3. Fire prevention leaflets “Protect forest from fires”. Individual participation

In total, more than 1143 works were considered. The best environmental and forest protection drawings are going to be printed on billboards along federal and regional roads near major cities of the Republic of Tatarstan.

On March 25, the All-Russian working seminar “Educational Tourism and Environmental Awareness on Specially Protected Natural Reservations” was held in Kazan Kremlin Museum Preserve. The organizer was the Tatar Regional Branch of the All-Russian Public Child Environmental Movement “Green Planet”. The delegates from the Republic of Karelia, the Republic of Chuvashia, the Mari-El Republic, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District and the Stavropol Region gathered for the seminar in Kazan.

The employees of the environmental and education departments of Kivach Nature Reserve, Bolshaya Kokshaga Nature Reserve, and Chavash Varmane National Parks told about their work. Kazan teachers told about their participation in the expedition “We are the children of the Volga”, which is annually held in Plescheevo Lake National Park.

The head of Chulpan Nature Sanctuary who shared his experience in organizing environmental and educational activities took part in the event.
