The Botanical Garden was founded on May 5 (April 22) 1827, the area - 43.7 hectares.

In accordance with the Federal Law of the Russian Federation FZ-33 of 15.02.1995 "On Specially Protected Natural Areas" dendrological parks and botanical gardens present nature protection institutions aimed at creation of special plant collections in order to preserve the diversity and enrichment of the plant world, as well as scientific, educational and outreach activities.

The Botanical Garden is located within the boundaries of the monument of history and culture of all-Russian significance "The Complex of the Forest Institute". There are 17 monuments of federal importance and 8 monuments of regional significance on its territory. The BG is registered with the State Inspection Committee for the Protection of Monuments, and has been protected by the state since 1989, as a monument of landscape art of the first half of the 19th century with a valuable collection of arboreal and shrubby plants.

The collection of arboreal plants amounts to 1600 taxa belonging to 181 genus and 61 families - is located on the territory of three dendrological parks: in the park, at the introduction nursery and other collector sites.

More than 50 thousand specimens of arboreal plants are presented in the park; 31 of them belong to the arboreal plants of the Red Books of Russia, the Leningrad Region and Karelia.

In the park there is an introductory nursery with the area of 0.63 hectares. The primary tests of species and forms of arboreal plants new for the Northwest Region are taking place there, in order to study their decorative properties and economic value. The main task is the introduction of arboreal plants in order to preserve and improve the collection.

Scientific employees of the Forest Engineering University conducted a cognitive excursion for the Tatarstan delegation. Our delegation, on behalf of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan, presented to the participants the Red Book of the Republic of Tatarstan, memorable national souvenirs, and also left a note of gratitude in the museum's book of reviews.

In addition, the Tatarstan delegation visited the Botanical Garden of the Botanical Institute named after V.L. Komarov of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

St. Petersburg Botanical Garden is one of the oldest in Russia. The Garden was based on the "Aptekarsky garden", founded by Peter I in 1714 for the cultivation of herbs, as well as rare and interesting "overseas" plants. The growth of collections and the importance of works on the study of plants led to the establishment of the Imperial Botanical Garden in 1823. For the years of 1823-1824, greenhouses have been built, the layout of which has been largely preserved to the present day. Since 1913 it is the center of the national botanical science and one of the largest botanical institutions in the world. The Botanical Garden has rich collections of live plants in greenhouses and in the park. In the greenhouses of the Botanical Garden, the area of which is about 1 hectare, and the total length of 1 km, collections of live plants numbering more than 7.5 thousand plant species, including from the most remote and exotic corners of the planet, are collected.
